Haig Colliery Mining Museum, Whitehaven

Haig Pit was Cumbria's last deep coal mine. When it closed in 1986, it ended 700 years of mining history in the area. Over 1200 men, women and children had been killed while winning coal in workings up to four miles out beneath the sea.
