A 'pot pourri' of info and tips for drivers

Editor

PLEASE NOTE: Snippets of information gleaned from various sources. We do our best to ensure accuracy but cannot totally guarantee them as many come from outside sources. (Get most but not all notifications from council on roadworks for example and they also point out that completion dates are estimates too). Also we take "poetic licence" to decide which are important enough and which can be ignored from the total we receive. We also receive a yearly one, too complicated to show in detail for yearly events, mostly the race traffic arrangements and Xmas late shopping. Of course if you do find one is inaccurate, or out of date,then please let the editor know.

ADVICE OF ROADWORKS RECEIVED FROM THE COUNCIL:

18TH JUNE 2012 UNTIL 4TH JULY 2012:

The Village, Haxby will be closed from York Road till Westfield Place. It is envisaged that this will only be in effect from 09.15hrs until 16.00hrs weekdays.

N.B. NOW EXTENDED UNTIL 22 JULY

18TH JUNE 2012 UNTIL 7TH SEPTEMBER 2012;

North Street and Wellington Row will be closed for essential gas mains work. There will be no diversion necessary. Access to premises only will be granted unless ongoing works prevent this at the time.

7TH JULY 2012 UNTIL 7TH SEPTEMBER 2012:Toft Green will be closed except for access for sewer works.Some variable details possible but simple answer is give it a miss!

SATURDAY 21ST JULY 2012 ONLY:

The York Pride Parade will disrupt traffic between 11.30 hrs and 13.30 hrs. Basically this will go from Minster area to racecourse via Skeldergate, Bishopthrope Road and Campelshon Road.

23RD JULY 2012 UNTIL 6TH AUGUST 2012;

Wheldrake Lane will be subject to diversions and closure due resurfacing works. We have not gone into detail due being done in phases and differing circumstances may apply.

23RD JULY 2012 UNTIL 3RD AUGUST 2012;

Wigginton Road will be closed between its junctions with Vyner Street and Crichton Avenue. Diversions will be signposted. It is envisaged that this closure will only be in effect from 18.00 hrs until 23.00hrs

23RD JULY 2012 UNTIL 31ST AUGUST 2012:

Hull Road will be reduced to single lane around its junction with Tang Hall Lane. We envisage congestion particularly at peak times. In addition, Tang Hall Lane will be closed from its junction with Hull Road to its junction with Hadrian Avenue. This will necessitate diverting via Millfield Lane to access Hull Road.

6TH AUGUST 2012 UNTIL 12TH AUGUST 2012:

Burton Stone Lane will be closed between its junctions with Crichton Avenue and Cromer Street. Traffic will have to divert via Crichton Avenue either via Wigginton Road or Kingsway North area. It is envisaged that this closure will only be in effect from 08.00hrs until 16.00hrs.

In addition to the above YCC remind us that Grosvenor Road will be closed in the event of any football match or other event at the adjacent football ground.

COMPANY SIDEPLATES

A reminder from taxi licensing that company sideplates must be attached to the rear passenger doors of all PH vehicles when working. No other part of the car is acceptable. Also, whilst we appreciate some jokers do it to you, they also remind you that it is your responsibility to ensure they are the correct way up !!

"ON VEHICLE" ADVERTISING - FROM YCC TAXI LICENSING:-

Taxi Licensing advise us that they have recently had to write to companies regarding non-approved "on vehicle" advertising for new drivers. They have asked us to make the trade aware that this form of advertising will not be allowed. In addition, we should add that all "on vehicle" wording must be pre-approved by Taxi Licensing, prior to it's being displayed on the vehicle. This also includes "six seater style" stickers on rear of multi-seaters.

A WARNING FROM TAXI LICENSING:

The licensing Manager has asked us to pass on this request for private hire drivers to stop the practice of parking on taxi ranks, especially, though not exclusively, the one in Piccadilly. He appreciates the temptation to do so as some appear to be neglected by the hackney trade but reminds you that it is still against your licence conditions to do so. He has asked us to warn all our members that the YCC wardens are under a new instruction of zero tolerance on this issue and you will be booked and fined. Your co-operation in ceasing this practice for good reason would be very much appreciated

FROM YCC ENFORCEMENT OFFICER:

Nigel Woodhead, YCC Enforcement Officer, has asked us to remind drivers that it is condition of their licence that they must report any criminal conviction, however trivial it may seem, to himself.

VISIT YORK

Why don't you keep a few of the Vist York mini-guides in the car? We all carry tourists at some time or other. These guides are really useful tools to both advise them and to show them where places are, as it includes a really good central map of the city. If any PH company wishes to get a supply for their drivers, they can contact Paul of Visit York on 554426, who will arrange something for you. Alternatively, if you are a single driver contact the editor here who will try and arrange something.

Want to go further with local tourism knowledge? From time to time Visit York, in association with other bodies, hold one day York Badge Approved Driver courses. Takes around three hours maximum over a lunch time period, so as not to clash with school runs. Course are now ran only when sufficient interested driver numbers are attained. If you are interested let the editor here now via above contacts.

DEFFRA OFFICES

Security at the Deffra offices in Peasholme Green inform us that they now have a dedicated pick up/drop off point for all taxis and private hire vehicles. The security personnel will open the barrier for all such vehicles and direct them to this point just to the left of the gates

Do you have you any tips etc. for the trade which could be shared here? If so let the editor know via magazine@ypha.info or call Jim Kerr
