History Whilst SHK itself has only been in existence since 1999, the business can trace its origins back to the late 1970's. Whilst there have been changes in the ownership of the business, some clients have been with us for over 20 years. Location We are situated on Water Street which is accessed from Brunswick Street, the main A52 Newcastle to Stoke road, opposite Zanzibar nightclub on the left hand side coming out of Newcastle. Plenty of free parking is available.There is a small car park at the back of our office as well as plenty of on-street parking. Most of our clients are based in Newcastle, Stoke-on-Trent, Leek and the surrounding areas.We also have a number of clients in Nottingham, Mansfield, Derby and as far afield as Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford, London and France. Opening hours Our normal hours of opening are 9.00am to 4.45pm, Monday to Friday. As a small business ourselves we recognise the need for flexiblity and appointments, can therefore, by arrangement be made outside these hours. THE SHK TEAM Stephen Kendrew Stephen obtained a degree in Accountancy in 1982 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1986. He has over 20 years experience of working in small accountancy practices. He deals with all aspects of taxation for our clients and is constantly looking at ways of helping our clients keep more of their hard-earned money. Stephen also deals with the accounts of clients, particularly of limited companies, and it is usually he who sees clients after their year-end to discuss their accounts and tax position. Tracey Nixon Tracey is a qualified Accounting Technician and has many years experience of accounts and bookkeeping. She has good experience of several different types of computerised accounting packages, but particularly of Sage. Several clients benefit from Tracey spending part of her working week at clients' premises to assist them not just with their bookkeeping but also with the strategic development of their business. Tracey spends the remainder of her working week in the office dealing with the accounts and tax affairs of clients. Debra and Hilary The first point of contact for most clients will be Debra or Hilary. This function, important to all businesses, is carried out by them sharing the role of receptionist/secretary. Both have extensive experience of the work involved and are both currently attending computer courses to ensure that they remain up to date in an ever-changing field. Debra is also responsible for dealing with all aspects of the payroll for a number of clients. With both Debra and Hilary the efficiency of SHK will remain at the highest of levels. Natalie Natalie also has several years experience working for firms of accountants and joined SHK in 2003. She divides her time working out of the office helping clients with their record-keeping and working in the office dealing with payroll, VAT and accountancy matters. Mike Mike brought a new business dimension to the services we provide. He deals with all aspects of the promotion and marketing of SHK , a field in which he has 15 years experience. He is responsible for establishing, maintaining and improving links with clients and others with whom we work closely as well as making sure we are meeting the needs of our clients. He is also a part-qualified accountant and spends part of his week working on accountancy, bookkeeping and VAT matters in addition to his promotional role. His experience also enables him to advise clients on various aspects of the sale and promotion of their own products or services. Mike also deals with all issues concerning Companies House. Dionne Dionne is the latest recruit to SHK, having joined us in October 2006. She comes with several years experience and deals with accounts, bookkeeping and VAT for clients.
