This year for our Lent course we will be watching the film ‘The King’s Speech’ and then over 5 weeks working our way through the accompanying discussion guide ‘Finding a voice: a lent course on the King’s Speech’. The course explores the ways in which fear holds us back and examines how we, like Bertie (from the film), can face and overcome our fears and begin to find our authentic voice.
Dates…
• Film evening - We’ll being watching the film a St Martin’s Desford on Sunday 18th February at 7.30pm
• Weekly Discussion Groups - Our weekly discussion groups will be every Tuesday at 7.30pm, starting on Tuesday 20th February.
Our Lent course is running on Zoom to enable those who find it difficult to attend a physical course to participate, but there’s no reason you couldn’t go to a friend’s house to join in on a shared computer if you don’t have access at your own home. We’ll be running this between St Martins, St Barts, Kirby Muxloe Free Church, and Desford Free Church, but it is open to anyone you’d like to invite. If you’d like to join in, please let Gareth know so he can arrange discussion groups.
Gareth does have a few physical copies of the discussion to sell at £5.99 each, or you can buy it online here: https://chbookshop.hymnsam.co.uk/books/9780232528930/finding-a-voice

We will be holding as 6pm Benefice Good Friday service at St Bart’s on 29th March. This will be a quiet reflective service as we recall and give thanks for the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. For this service we will be putting together a choir from St Martins & St Barts, which David Williams will be overseeing.

Nearly 100 billion pieces of plastic packaging are thrown away by UK households every year, and just 12% is recycled in the UK.
For one week in March, thousands of schools, households, community groups and businesses will be coming together to count their plastic waste. And we want you to join them. Almost a quarter of a million people took part in The Big Plastic Count in 2022. Together we revealed that almost two billion pieces of plastic packaging are being thrown away a week. This year you can help build even more evidence to convince UK ministers to lead the way at the global talks that could finally phase out plastic pollution for good.
As a way of raising our own awareness on the plastic that we use, could you take part and count your plastic for one week from 11th to 17th March 2024?
