This site is a resource for all those living in Stanford in the Vale, Oxfordshire. This non-profit site has been maintained on an entirely voluntary basis by residents of the village since 2002.

About the village

Stanford in the Vale is a large village with approximately 2000 residents situated in south west Oxfordshire. It lies on the A417, four miles from Faringdon and six from Wantage (see map). It is a thriving modern community with many active clubs and societies, a church, a public house and numerous businesses.

The Anchor

Stanford in the Vale is thought to be named after a stone ford in the area. It may have been a crossing of the River Ock, some say where the bridge now spans the river before Stanford Mill, however others speculate it was actually a crossing of Frogmore Brook.
